Earl Klugh’s Weekend of Jazz at Kiawah Island, SC

We certainly had a great Weekend of Jazz this year again!  I’d just like to take a moment to thank all the fans that came out to Kiawah this year.  It’s a wonderful experience – I really enjoy spending time talking to everyone.  I love seeing the smiles on your faces.  It’s such a great thing to see each year!

A real highlight for me was Chuck Loeb and Andy Snitzer.  Chuck has always been a great friend and great guitar player, and Chuck and Andy’s show was outstanding at Mingo Point.

My friend Rick Braun also puts on a very dynamic show – he is a great player and I really admire his style.  It’s very unique, and kind of goes back to the sounds of the 60’s a bit.  He has a big sound that’s also very melodic.

I love Trombone Shorty.  He’s one of the originals out here right now.  It’s great to see younger people embrace decades-old music and turn it in to something new and exciting.  He’s really going to continue to make a big name for himself.

I loved Natalie Cole’s show – it was classy and beautiful.  The stage at Kiawah overlooking the ocean was a perfect setting for her performance.  I’ve always been a big fan of hers and the entire show was magical.  She mentioned on stage how great it was to see all of the audience’s faces in the daylight – not something she usually gets to do.  That’s one of the special things about Kiawah and that setting!

I love playing with David Benoit.  We’ve been friends for many years and I enjoy working with David every chance I get.  We really have a lot in common as far as how we approach our music and our instruments.

Another up and coming player is Michael Lington.  He’s a friend of mine and it’s fun to see him grow into a great solo artist.  Both Michael and Ray Parker Jr. came and soloed on David and I’s show. It wouldn’t be the same without Ray Parker Jr. at the event!  We’ve been friends so many years and having him at Weekend of Jazz is always fun.

East Coast Party Band is also always a lot of fun!  It’s great to have a band that’s very musical and puts a smile on people’s faces!  We also had a wonderful group of local musicians that bring their talents to Kiawah every year.  Thanks again to Gino Castillo, Porkchop Meyer, Duda Lucena, Cameron Handel and David Patterson.  And last but certainly not least, thanks to my incredible band, Tom Braxton, David Lee, Al Duncan, Ron Otis and our Musical Director Al Turner, who all performed in many ways throughout the weekend!

Thanks again for a wonderful event.  Looking forward to seeing you all next year, November 12-14!

All the Best,

Earl

We hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday!
